Distinguishing Factors Between Plain Copper Wire and Braided Copper Wire

Copper wire is a product, which is extensively used for various purposes in several industries. It is offered in several different varieties and if you are a beginner, then the differences can seem a bit confusing.

There are several options to choose including copper braid, stranded copper and more. Each of them looks a bit different from the other, but can be used for varying purposes. One should know how these different wires look and function, along with their advantages and disadvantages.

Braided Copper Wire is in the braid form and a conductor of choice where flexibility is required. It is also used for electrically bonding parts of a vehicle, for example an exhaust pipe, door, or hood. Its flexibility is the biggest advantage to count on.

Plain Copper Wire is the easiest to install and to connect. Such type of wire is solid in the sizes of 4 - 6 AWG and is commonly used on safety grounds for home electrical panels.  This wire is not hard to come by. On plus side, both of the wires are best suited for use as a DC conductor.

Following are few of the distinguishing factors related to Plain Copper Wire and Braided Copper Wire:
  • Mechanical flexibility of braided copper wire is excellent whereas plain copper wire has moderate type of flexibility.

  • Long term durability of a plain copper wire is excellent whereas braided copper can go up to fair length.

  • Plain copper wire is much more suitable for direct burial in comparison to braided copper wire or cable. For more information Visit Us.
